More than 70 people engaged in this 2-day activity consisting of locals, international students and ESN volunteers. During the first day, the participants had the chance to assist the local animal welfare organisation of Nikea-Keratchini, which is run by volunteers and works solely on donations as there is no public funding available. Throughout the activity, the participants helped clean the animal shelter, paint the walls and build cages for the strays, thus enhancing their living conditions. Divided in teams, they walked and groomed the neglected dogs while they created a campaign to promote volunteerism, under the guidance of our trainers.
The second day was dedicated to building organisational capacity of the two organisations (ESN & Animal Welfare organisation). Hosted at the Technological and Educational Institute of Athens, our trainers (Dominique Montagnese and Konstantina Chouta) held a full day training course on NGO management, fundraising and recruitment.
This project is expected to result in empowered youth workers, allowing them to have an increased impact with their work, as well as to increase activities and possibly recruit more volunteers.
