30th anniversary of the Erasmus+

On the 30th November 2017, Brussels celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus+ programme.

On that occasion, Erasmus Student Network Belgium partnered up with the European Commission and the two Belgian National Agencies for Higher Education, AEF-Europe and EPOS Vlaanderen, to organise the final celebratory event of this Anniversary year. More than 1000 students from all over Belgium joined in the celebrations, transported back and forth with special bus services from Antwerp, Ghent, Hasselt, Leuven, Liège, Louvain-la-Neuve, Mons and Namur.

The evening show starred many personalities from the European scene. João Pinto, President of Erasmus Student Network AISBL took part in a panel discussion addressing the Erasmus programme in higher education, together with Martine Reichert, current Director-General for Education and Culture, and Hywel Ceri Jones, former Director-General for Education and Culture at the start of the Erasmus+ programme.

João testified about his personal story as an exchange student when he arrived to Bordeaux after a 24-hour train ride. Tired, with four suitcases and a plastered arm, he told the audience how happy he was to then receive such warm and supporting welcome upon his arrival. Many years later, he is proud to represent a network that still picks up students from stations and guide them through their new host countries.

As final project for the 30th Anniversary year of the Erasmus+ programme and in the perspective to support students even better in the future, ESN Belgium launched last Thursday a new website and campaign called “Welcome to Belgium". On this platform ESN Belgium aims to collect information for all incoming international students, exchange or degree, on studying in Belgium. Besides the wide range of practical information, users can also get to learn about many fun facts on the country and its student cities.

Throughout the entire event ESN Belgium managed a central stand at the entrance of the event to massively promote the launch of this platform.
