Erasmus+ goes to Taiwan!

Conference on "Internationalisation of Higher Education and study opportunities in Europe for students and staff" on the 25th of October 2015.

On October 25th, 2015 OCEANS Network in cooperation with the Erasmus+ Student and Alumni Association (ESAA) organised the first conference and capacity building workshop to promote the new ERASMUS+ programme, which as of 2015 has gone worldwide. The event was also strongly supported by the National Chengchi University (NCCU), the NCCU international student organization and the Erasmus Mundus Association (EMA) Taiwan Chapter.

In 2015 as many as 141 staff and students will participate in an exchange between Taiwan and the EU, and with the rising interest on both sides the number is expected to grow in 2016. To facilitate the debate on internationalisation of higher education, professor Grace Liu gave an interactive speech on globalization and on the role of education in promoting intercultural awareness. Meanwhile,  intercultural trainer Sunny Foehr-Huang from ICUnet held a workshop on cross-cultural differences and awareness, which helped prepare the prospective students for their Europe stay.

Moreover, OCEANS Network coordinator and conference host Nik Klaric gave a presentation on study abroad opportunities and on the Erasmus+ Students and Alumni Association. EMA Taiwan Chapter's President Jerry Chen, together with fellow EMA representatives shared their European study experience and presented Erasmus Mundus Master programmes available for international students.

During the event, an informal session was hosted with the International Relations Offices from several Taiwanese universities, where ERASMUS+ trainer and OCEANS President Neringa Tumenaite explained what it takes to set-up inter-institutional agreements to send students and staff abroad under the ERASMUS+ scholarship, as well as other EU-funded programmes for non-European universities.

The Erasmus+ Students and Alumni Association and  OCEANS hope to continue this fruitful cooperation, and the successful promotion of European Higher Education and intercultural dialogue in Taiwan.

The organisers would like to give a special thank you to the NCCU International Relations office, to the Vice President of NCCU international student organization, Fernando Nájera, to EMA representative, Carol Pai, and OCEANS Vice President, Melania Lotti, for their great contribution to the conference and to promoting Erasmus+ in Taiwan.
