Erasmus+ Peacebuilders Network, hosts its Inception Meeting

The ERASMUS+ Peacebuilders Network initiative aims to create a capacity building and knowledge exchange to advance the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda.

The initial idea started to be developed in 2021 following the outbreak of military coup and conflict in Myanmar, when alumni from the OCEANS Network and Erasmus Mundus Association initiated ERASMUS+ Solidarity with Myanmar group and a consultative online meeting to brainstorm, discuss and plan solidarity actions with Myanmar and support our Erasmus+ alumni and other young people in the country.  Based on the consultation outcomes, in order to get external support for the volunteer actions, a small team of Erasmus+ alumni, lead by EMA & OCEANS, and supported by garagErasmus applied for the grant from Erasmus+ Student and Alumni Alliance to help with external experts and trainers to help develop a peace and solidarity support initiative.

The inception and planning meeting of the Erasmus+ Peacebuilders Network was held in November, 2021 in hybrid form. Physical planning meeting In Istanbul (with members of OCEANS, EMA, UNITED for Intercultural Action and an independent expert) included several online sessions with 7 trainers and experts joining from 4 different continents to discuss the creation of the network.

Following the deliberations, it was decided that the upcoming events will include:

  • An Interactive discussion on peacebuilding frameworks

  • Sharing experiences on context based needs and challenges, and exploring response approaches

  • Peer support and mentoring

  • A series of thematic workshops on 1) Creative approaches to Peacebuilding, 2) Nonviolent Communication, Negotiations and Advocacy, 3) Key steps to Reconciliation and 4) Fundraising & Financing for the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda

  • A public Peace Forum culminating in an Erasmus+ Peace Declaration

  • Two panels on “Advancing the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda” and “Peacebuilding in Myanmar: Current realities, way forward”

Applications to join the network will open in January, 2022 and be open to young peacebuilders worldwide!
