Testimonies ESAA Project Management Seminar in Budapest, 8-10 November 2019

20 representatives from the partner organisations (EMA, ESN, gE, OCEANS) took part in a very interactive and practical seminar on different areas of project management. Here are a few testimonies on the seminar and what the participants have taken back to their functions within their organisations.

“I didn't have many experiences with project management before, so I learned many theories of project management in this training.” (Marsela Husen)

What did you like most about the training?
The training was very interesting and informative. Monika, the trainer, provided us with lots of engaging cases and activities. We had a chance to be actively involved in many topics and discussion, so it was never boring. Also, the atmosphere was very conducive. Everyone was very nice, engaging, and cooperative during the whole training.

What knowledge/skills that you learnt throughout the weekend will you be able to use while working in your organisation?
I didn't have many experiences with project management before, so I learned many theories of project management in this training. If I could choose, two important knowledge/skills that I would use in my daily work are the project management process, and 'Leading with Questions'.

How do you think other participants might benefit taking part in future seminars?
There are many benefits that participants could get from joining this kind of training/seminars. First, it provides us – the participants – with knowledge of the topics, many information, professional guidance, and direction, that we could use for our organization and personal work. Second, it provides us with a platform to learn by doing – from the cases and group work, as well as from other participants' experiences. Last, it also gives us an opportunity to meet and interact with participants from other organizations. We can learn about other organization easily, and increase our chances to have a partnership/collaboration in the future. In that, I hope we will have more activities like this in the future.

"What I really appreciated was the session related to motivation and resource management in projects" (Andrea Nozzoli)

What did you like most about the training?
Firstly, I liked the way the training was organised including alternating sessions aimed at acquiring hard skills and group discussion or group work sessions which have given each participant the chance to get involved and to express his ideas in a positive context. In addition, the interest and the willingness of participants and trainers to share their opinions and suggestions on the topics covered gave a specific added value to the training. Finally, I enjoyed the session related to change management on a case study and the way the group work took place.

What knowledge/skills that you learnt throughout the weekend will you be able to use while working in your organisation?
The trainer gave me the basis on how to approach to project management: project cycle, the project phases, stakeholder management and financial planning. However, what I really appreciated was the session related to motivation and resource management in projects. It helped me to think about the importance of understanding the type of person who is working with me and for sure I will use the advices and the knowledge I learned on how to deal with each type of person in case of conflicts.

How do you think other participants might benefit taking part in future seminars?
Based on this experience, I would recommend participating in future ESAA seminars to everyone how is interested in these topics because it stimulates the ability to get involved in international contexts and it is determinant to strengthen one’s own leadership in ever-changing contexts. Participants will acquire both hard and soft skills necessary to approach project management. They will also be able to share their past experiences, and at the same time they will enjoy suggestions and advices from those who may already be in the world of project management.

“I enjoyed the diversity of the group” and “appreciated the dynamism of the trainers” (Christian Paşka)

What did you like most about the training?
When it comes to the event itself, I enjoyed the diversity of the group. Meeting representatives from different organisations gave me the opportunity to learn more about their activity and seek for meanings of collaboration in the future. I also appreciated the cultural diversity of the group, being people from so many backgrounds and countries gave a more special note to the event. When it comes to the training sessions, I appreciated the dynamism of the trainers, the fact that they constructed the workshops following our needs, but also the fact that they tried to tackle different aspects of project management in such a small amount of time, so we could get an overall picture of what project management means.

What knowledge/skills that you learnt throughout the weekend will you be able to use while working in your organisation?
I appreciated that we tackled stakeholder’s management as well as motivation techniques in order to learn more what motivates us, but also what motivates others. Moreover, I enjoyed the trainer’s methods and techniques and I intend to use them in teaching other members from ESN in further trainings I plan to hold.

How do you think other participants might benefit taking part in future seminars?
I consider it very important that the seminar’s participants disseminate the information and knowledge gained during the training. This is what I intend to do in my network. Our experience may motivate them to apply themselves in the future seminars so we can all raise the standards in our daily activity.
