The 2025 edition of the ESNsurvey is out!
The 2025 edition of the ESNsurvey, coordinated by the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), is now open! If you’re an Erasmus+ or full-degree international student, or you have studied abroad in the past years, your experience matters – not only to you, but to the future of student mobility across Europe and beyond.
What is the ESNsurvey?
Since 2005, the ESNsurvey has been Europe’s largest student-led research initiative on international student mobility. Conducted in collaboration with ESN member organisations across 46 countries, this annual survey gathers essential data about the experiences, challenges, and outcomes of mobile students – making a direct contribution to shaping European higher education policy.
The survey has been developed with the valuable support of an expert group consisting of the European Association for International Education (EAIE), the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA), the International Association of Universities (IAU), the European University Alliance (ICIU), Dr. Ewa Krzaklewska from the Jagiellonian University and Dr. Cristof Van Mol from the University of Tilburg, as well as the ENIS Network of researchers.
Why is the ESNsurvey important?
The ESNsurvey project aims to improve access and quality of student mobility, with a special focus on the monitoring of the Erasmus+ programme. The findings obtained through the questionnaire are published in the report and used as recommendations to all stakeholders involved in student mobility. The first results are expected to be published in October 2025, followed by the final report in 2026.
Who can participate?
This year's survey reaches out to a broad spectrum of students:
- Students who have taken part in a mobility exchange in the past two years;
- International full-degree students currently studying abroad or who have done so in the past two years;
- Non-mobile students who have not gone abroad - to share their reasons for not participating yet.
Whether you are currently engaged in a mobility programme or reflecting on past experiences from the workplace, your insights are invaluable.
What is new in this 2025 edition?
The ESNsurvey is now open to graduates who previously participated in a mobility programme and are currently employed. Their responses will help identify how international experiences have contributed to skills development and career opportunities, supporting the European Commission’s ambition to build a Union of Skills.
Considering the changes happening in international education, enhanced questions will support the development of a potential future European Degree and provide deeper insights into the future European University Alliances. Also, new questions have been added to gather students’ opinions on a potential future European Degree.
